Uzbekistan, Tencent discuss cross-border QR payments
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Tencent discussed the development of cross-border QR payments and the possible integration of Uzbekistan’s Unified QR Payment System with international payment ecosystems. The meeting was held as part of the Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum 2026, the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.
The participants focused on prospects for connecting Uzbekistan’s national QR infrastructure with payment ecosystems abroad. Such integration could simplify cashless transactions for both Uzbek citizens and foreign visitors to the country.
In particular, connecting the Unified QR Payment System to international payment networks could potentially allow foreign tourists and other visitors to Uzbekistan to pay for goods and services using payment applications they are familiar with. For Uzbek citizens, this could in turn expand opportunities to use QR payments while traveling abroad.
During the meeting, the sides also reviewed Tencent’s experience in integrating national QR infrastructures with international payment ecosystems. This experience is planned to be used in further discussions on possible solutions for Uzbekistan.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to hold additional technical meetings. These meetings are expected to determine further steps for cooperation and develop a clear roadmap for integrating Uzbekistan’s Unified QR Payment System with international payment ecosystems.
