Uzbekistan Targets 145 Trillion Soums Creative Economy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of its creative economy to 145 trillion soums in the coming years by boosting value added in the cultural and arts sectors, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The president said the target will be achieved through the systematic development of the sector and improved economic returns from cultural activities.

As part of the measures, a legal framework has been established, along with a special tax regime for residents of the Creative Industries Park. Construction of major creative parks has already begun in the Shaykhantahur district of Tashkent and in the city of Nukus.

Special attention is being given to the development of handicrafts. Projects are planned to increase the added value of craft products by 5–10 times through the introduction of modern design approaches.

The plans also include expanded cooperation with international designers and an increase in exhibitions in Europe, the United States, South and East Asia, and the Middle East.

In addition, a program of annual large-scale events will be introduced in each region to support and promote creative industries.
