Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Preventive measures to protect children from violence are being strengthened in state general education schools across Uzbekistan.
Special informational posters have been developed in cooperation with the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Children’s Rights, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and relevant agencies. They are designed to explain to students the provisions of Uzbekistan’s Law “On Protecting Children from All Forms of Violence” and raise awareness of potential threats.
The materials are currently being placed in convenient locations for students to access in virtually all state general education schools across the country.
The posters help children better understand their rights, recognize different forms of violence and understand the actions in which such violence may manifest itself. Students are also informed where and how to seek help if they encounter such situations.
Separate materials are intended for education officials responsible for child protection. They provide information on the necessary steps to take when violence against a child is identified.
Raising awareness is regarded as one of the key elements of the primary protection of children from violence. The informational materials are intended to help students identify such situations in a timely manner and understand the available mechanisms for seeking assistance.
The measures are aimed at creating a safe environment in schools where every child’s right to protection from all forms of violence is ensured.
