Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis approved at a plenary session a law introducing amendments and additions to the Labour Code as part of efforts to incorporate international labour standards into national legislation.

The document provides for further improvement of legal provisions governing labour relations, taking into account the provisions of International Labour Organization conventions.

Under the approved amendments, “skin colour” and “political views” will be added to the list of grounds on which discrimination in employment and occupation is prohibited. The law also establishes that sexual harassment in employment and occupation is inadmissible.

The amendments were prepared as part of ongoing efforts in Uzbekistan to develop the principles of equality and fairness in labour relations, prevent discrimination and consistently implement international labour standards.

During the discussion, senators noted that the new provisions are aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for citizens in employment, preventing various forms of discrimination and strengthening guarantees of labour rights.

Following consideration, the law was approved by the senators.
