Uzbekistan Seizes Counterfeit Drugs Worth 600 Million Soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Officers of the State Security Service, together with the Customs Committee, intercepted an illegal channel for importing and selling counterfeit medicines supplied to Uzbekistan from Russia.

According to the agencies, law enforcement officers conducted searches across three residential properties in Tashkent and Tashkent Region during operational activities. The investigation established that a 63-year-old resident of the capital's Yangikhayot District, together with his two sons, organized the storage and sale of the pharmaceutical products.

During the searches, law enforcement officers seized 1,330 packages of counterfeit medicines across 29 brand names in accordance with established procedural rules, including Buserelin, Volini, Bikana, Tirzetta, and others.

According to preliminary estimates, the value of the seized products is approximately 600 million soums.

Investigators believe the drugs were delivered from Russia in small batches using passengers traveling by rail and air. Following importation, the medicines were sold in Tashkent.

Expert examinations have been ordered for the seized medicines.

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
