Uzbekistan, Russia to Form Group to Review Nuclear Plant Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekistan's Uzatom agency and the Directorate for Nuclear Power Plant Construction held talks with Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom in Moscow on 22–23 July, agreeing to establish a joint working group to coordinate the review of design documentation for an integrated nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region.

The working meeting was attended by Rosatom Capital Construction Director Dmitry Volkov and representatives of the Industry Centre for Capital Construction. The sides discussed procedures for organizing and conducting the review of the design documentation, as well as measures to develop the expertise of national specialists.

The working group will coordinate cooperation between the Uzbek and Russian sides and promptly address issues related to obtaining the necessary expert opinions.

Uzbek representatives also held talks with the management of the Association of Organizations of the Nuclear Industry Construction Complex. The discussions focused on cooperation with companies that are members of the association and operate in Uzbekistan.

As part of intergovernmental agreements between Uzbekistan and Hungary, a meeting was also held in Moscow with a representative of Hungarian company MVM EGI Zrt. The sides identified immediate steps concerning the construction of dry cooling towers for the nuclear facility.

The meetings were part of ongoing work to implement the project to build an integrated nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region.
