Uzbekistan Railway Freight Inflow Rises to 28 Million Tons

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Mainline railway transport in the Republic of Uzbekistan is demonstrating stable growth in operational indicators and transportation volumes.

According to official data from the National Committee on Statistics, a total of 28 million tons of various cargoes were handled and delivered by public railway transport between January and March 2026.

Compared to the same three-month period of the previous year, the volume of freight transportation along the country's steel lifelines increased by 4.3%, reflecting the general activation of the industrial sector and the strengthening of foreign trade logistics chains.

In the structural breakdown of the cargo flow, the leading positions are traditionally held by raw materials and heavy industry products. The largest volume of transportation fell to the share of various ores, the transport of which amounted to 3.9 million tons.

The second line was taken by liquid petroleum cargoes with an indicator of 3.4 million tons. Strategically important food products closed the top three leaders, with 3.3 million tons of grain and milled grain products transported by rail in the first quarter of the current year.

A significant weight in the total transportation statistics is retained by solid fuel and metallurgical products. The volume of coal transportation by mainline transport was recorded at 2.7 million tons, and ferrous metals reached 1.8 million tons.

The construction sector ensured the transportation of 1.5 million tons of specialized construction cargo. Products of the chemical industry also demonstrated stable indicators, with delivery volumes of chemical and mineral fertilizers amounting to 789,000 tons, while 710,900 tons of cement were shipped.

In the segment of smaller but economically critical product categories, the statistics were distributed as follows: timber shipments amounted to 631,000 tons, and the transport volume of seasonal agricultural products, including potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fruits, reached 266,100 tons.

All other types of goods combined into the category of other cargoes accounted for 8.9 million tons.

The established dynamic confirms the key role of railway arteries in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the agro-industrial and industrial complexes of Uzbekistan.
