Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The two-month “Cleanliness and Beautification” campaign continues across all regions of Uzbekistan, aimed at improving the sanitary condition of populated areas, beautifying public spaces and expanding green areas.

In accordance with a Presidential decree, work to clear waste has been underway since 1 October in mahallas, along streets and roads, beside irrigation ditches and canals, around water bodies and in other public places.

At the same time, unauthorised dumps are being removed, areas are being cleaned up, and trees and shrubs are being maintained.

One of the campaign’s priorities remains ensuring the timely removal of waste.

Across the regions, the use of specialised machinery is being expanded, while measures are being taken to improve sanitary conditions, expand greenery and raise environmental awareness among the population.

As of the current reporting period, more than 229 vehicles and pieces of equipment have been involved in the work in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. A total of 139 mahallas have been cleared of waste, with 9,090 tonnes of waste removed.

In Andijan region, more than 330 vehicles and pieces of equipment have been deployed, more than 230 mahallas have been cleaned, and 23,671 tonnes of waste have been removed.

In Samarkand region, more than 440 vehicles and pieces of equipment are involved in the campaign. A total of 319 mahallas have been cleared of waste, with 23,125 tonnes removed.

In Tashkent city, 261 units of specialised equipment have been deployed. A total of 228 mahallas have been cleaned, with 47,942 tonnes of waste removed.

Similar measures to clean up, beautify and improve the environmental condition of territories are continuing across all regions of the country.

Preparation for the autumn stage of “Yashil Makon”

An important component of the two-month campaign is expanding green areas. Regions are identifying sites for planting trees and shrubs and preparing land for the autumn season of the nationwide “Yashil Makon” project.

A stock of 10.597 million tree and shrub seedlings has been prepared for the autumn campaign. A total of 191,500 metres of irrigation systems have already been installed in green areas, which will help ensure the necessary care of young plantings.

In particular, land plots are being prepared for upcoming planting in the Panob mahalla of Vobkent district and in areas of Jondor district in Bukhara region.

Work at a nursery in Jondor district was also reviewed. A well was drilled to provide irrigation for the seedlings, while mulching and composting measures were carried out. These measures are aimed at creating favourable conditions for the growth and subsequent maintenance of trees and shrubs.

Thus, the “Cleanliness and Beautification” campaign brings together measures to clean up public areas, remove waste, eliminate unauthorised dumps, improve territories and develop urban and rural green infrastructure.

Clean-up and beautification work, as well as preparations for the autumn greening season, are continuing across the country.
