Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan had issued 1,018,453 international I-REC(E) “green energy” certificates as of 2 October 2026. The volume was almost 2.3 times higher than the figure for the whole of 2025, when 446,520 such certificates were issued.
The increase in the number of certificates reflects growing interest among companies in using electricity from renewable sources as part of Uzbekistan’s transition to a “green” economy.
Among major companies that used I-REC(E) certificates in 2026, the Ministry of Economy and Finance named Sanoatqurilishbank, UZAUTO MOTORS JSC, Uzbektelecom JSC, Agrobank and Uzbekneftegaz JSC.
A significant share of the total volume came from a transaction ordered by Uzbekneftegaz JSC. Uzbekhydroenergo JSC issued 800,000 I-REC(E) certificates for the company.
International I-REC(E) certificates are used to document that a specified amount of electricity consumed was generated from renewable sources. Companies can also reflect the relevant information in ESG reporting related to environmental, social and corporate aspects of their activities.
In addition, the use of such certificates may be relevant for companies operating in export markets, as it allows them to document the use of renewable energy in production processes.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said the I-REC(E) system is becoming increasingly important in energy transformation and decarbonisation processes.
The certificates allow companies to demonstrate their use of renewable energy and ensure transparency of relevant practices, while supporting sustainable development goals and the fulfilment of climate commitments.
