Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the European Union held the first meeting of the Uzbekistan-EU Working Group on investment and financial and technical cooperation under the Global Gateway initiative in Tashkent on 29 September.
The sides discussed the practical implementation of the EU's €12 billion investment package for Central Asia, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade said.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Akram Aliyev and Peteris Ustubs, Director at the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships.
The participants focused on implementing the Global Gateway investment package announced by the European Union for Central Asia at the Samarkand Summit in April 2025.
The meeting addressed progress on joint projects in energy, water management, transport and digital connectivity. The agenda also included cooperation on climate issues and critical raw materials.
Particular attention was given to attracting European financial institutions, development institutions and private capital to implement joint investment projects.
The participants also discussed opportunities to expand EU grant and technical assistance, including under financial programmes for 2028-2034.
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to develop the Working Group as a permanent platform for coordinating investment initiatives, building a joint project portfolio and advancing specific projects.
