Uzbekistan Courts Egyptian Investors at Cairo Business Summit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan's top diplomat sat down with Egypt's industrial heavyweights in Cairo Friday, signaling Tashkent's push to deepen economic ties with one of Africa's largest economies.

Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov hosted a roundtable June 13 at the Federation of Egyptian Industries, bringing together executives from more than a dozen major Egyptian firms — including Elsewedy Electric, ORASCOM Construction, Travco Group, and Seagull Petroleum and Mining — in a focused bid to unlock new investment flows between the two countries.

Talks centered on industrial cooperation, new investment projects, and broadening commercial links between the private sectors of both nations. Mohamed Zaki El-Suweidi, Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, participated directly in the exchange.

Sectors identified for potential collaboration span a wide range: energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure — a breadth that reflects Uzbekistan's ongoing campaign to diversify its foreign investment base beyond traditional partners.

Tashkent reiterated its pitch to Egyptian industry: Uzbekistan remains an open and reliable partner for investors seeking market entry and expansion opportunities in Central Asia.

The meeting comes as Uzbekistan continues an aggressive outreach to attract foreign capital under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's reform agenda, which has repositioned the country as one of the region's more business-friendly destinations since the late 2010s.
