Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of the regulator, the Central Securities Depository and Nico Staes, an independent member of the Depository’s Supervisory Board.
The participants discussed the ongoing transformation of the Central Securities Depository, its development strategy and priorities for further improving the post-trade infrastructure of Uzbekistan’s securities market.
Nico Staes has nearly 30 years of international experience in securities market services and post-trade operations.
He currently heads the asset management function at Prague-based Clearstream Services, part of Deutsche Börse Group.
As an independent member of the Supervisory Board, he also contributes to the development of the Central Securities Depository, applying his professional international experience.
The meeting covered the Depository’s current operations and organisational development, as well as infrastructure-related tasks required for further development of the securities market.
Particular attention was paid to developing the secondary market, expanding cooperation with international custodial organisations and improving foreign investors’ access to Uzbekistan’s market.
The sides also discussed the development of individual infrastructure projects as part of a unified and interconnected ecosystem.
Nico Staes stressed the importance of assessing proposed solutions from an international perspective and considering various operational scenarios at an early stage of their development.
The meeting also highlighted the need to continuously improve post-trade infrastructure to ensure the stability and continuity of settlements, as well as effective asset management.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue cooperation and dialogue with Nico Staes on the further development of the Central Securities Depository.
