Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva met with Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly, who arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the Fourth Uzbek-Belarusian Interparliamentary Forum.
The sides discussed further development of interparliamentary dialogue and bilateral cooperation, the press service of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis said.
The talks focused on regular interaction between the parliaments, their role in implementing agreements reached at the highest level, and expanding contacts between parliamentary committees and interparliamentary cooperation groups.
The sides also discussed expanding trade and economic ties. They considered opportunities to implement joint projects in agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering and textiles, as well as other sectors.
The participants stressed the need to develop direct contacts between business representatives and increase the role of parliaments in boosting bilateral trade.
The sides also exchanged views on organized labor migration and ensuring legal employment for citizens. Particular attention was paid to guaranteeing their labor, medical and social rights.
In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the sides noted the need to further expand cooperation and implement joint initiatives in education, healthcare and tourism.
The discussions included continuing Culture Days, rectors’ forums and medical forums, as well as youth projects and initiatives to strengthen ties between students of the two countries.
The meeting also addressed support for entrepreneurial activity and the use of parliamentary diplomacy. The sides emphasized the importance of implementing agreements reached as part of Uzbek-Belarusian women’s business forums.
Following the meeting, the sides reached agreements on further developing interparliamentary cooperation, strengthening interregional ties, supporting entrepreneurs and expanding engagement through international parliamentary platforms.
As part of the Fourth Uzbek-Belarusian Interparliamentary Forum, an exhibition of national products by organizations from the two countries under the “Made in Uzbekistan” and “Made in Belarus” brands was also held in Khiva.
Over two days, the exhibition showcased projects and initiatives of ministries and agencies, sectoral associations and enterprises from Uzbekistan and Belarus, as well as women entrepreneurs from the two countries.
The exhibition covered textile, silk, leather and footwear, and woodworking industries, as well as agricultural and food production.
Visitors were also presented with women’s entrepreneurship projects, IT developments and innovative solutions, medical and cosmetics products, tourism potential and mechanical engineering products.
More than 100 enterprises from Uzbekistan and Belarus participated in the exhibition.
