Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has begun pilot testing digital labeling for vegetable oils as the country expands its digital product labeling system. The trial gives companies an opportunity to prepare equipment and software and train employees ahead of new procedures, O‘zbekiston 24 television reported.

Balton Trading, a company that imports vegetable oils, is participating in the pilot project. At the company, digital labeling is being integrated into the existing product handling process, from receiving incoming batches and storage to subsequent shipment to customers.

According to Balton Trading Supply Chain Director Mansur Yuldashev, participation in the project allows the company to familiarize itself with the new procedures in advance and prepare employees to handle labeled products before mandatory requirements are introduced.

The process begins before the goods arrive at the warehouse. Specialists receive labeling codes from the system operator, print them and apply them to each individual product. Group codes are then generated, followed by aggregation at the pallet level. Information about the group packaging codes contained on the pallet is recorded.

Balton Trading labeling specialist Kirill Repetiy said the system would allow the company to reduce the time and other resources required to work with labeled products in the future.

More than 100 employees have been trained as part of the pilot project. They are practicing the receipt of labeled batches, verification of codes, preparation of the required documents and preparation of products for shipment.

Participation in the pilot also allows companies to test the full digital labeling cycle, select suitable technical solutions, receive advisory support and identify organisational and technical issues in advance.

Customs clearance of imported products is receiving particular attention during the pilot. Jasur Kayumov, manager of pilot projects at the digital labeling system operator, said that from 1 July 2026, once digital labeling of vegetable oils becomes mandatory, importers will be required to provide labeling codes during customs clearance. At the same time, the television report displayed a deadline of 31 December 2026.

Thus, companies participating in the pilot are testing not only the application of codes and internal accounting for labeled products, but also procedures related to imports.

Following the introduction of labeling, each individual product will receive its own digital identification, while companies will have an established process for handling the goods at different stages of their movement.
