Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As part of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the House of Councillors of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the meeting, the sides discussed further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Morocco. Tanzila Narbayeva noted that Morocco is one of Uzbekistan’s important partners in North Africa, highlighting the historical, spiritual and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as their mutual respect and friendly relations.

Particular attention was paid to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening multifaceted ties between the two countries.

In this context, the sides stressed the importance of intensifying mutual visits, expanding the activities of inter-parliamentary friendship groups, and exchanging experience in lawmaking and parliamentary oversight.

The participants also exchanged views on developing investment cooperation and expanding direct contacts between the private sectors of the two countries.

The sides separately discussed prospects for cooperation in agriculture, food security and energy, as well as expanding cultural and humanitarian ties and cooperation in tourism.

Following the meeting, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the House of Councillors of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco signed a Memorandum of Understanding on inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The document is intended to provide a framework for systematic and effective inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries.
