Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Embassy of Uzbekistan held an Uzbek-Latvian business forum attended by representatives of the business communities of both countries, Dunyo news agency reported.
During the event, Latvian entrepreneurs were presented with Uzbekistan's investment opportunities, as well as information on reforms aimed at improving the business environment, developing free economic zones and creating conditions for foreign investors and tourists.
Business talks focused on prospects for expanding trade, economic and investment ties, cooperation in transport and logistics, and interaction in the food processing and pharmaceutical industries.
Participants discussed increasing bilateral trade and freight volumes, making more effective use of the two countries' transport and logistics capabilities, and implementing new joint investment initiatives.
Representatives of more than 10 major Latvian companies in the transport and logistics sector took part in the talks, including Riga Port Group, Baltijas Ekspresis and Ventspils Commercial Port JSC.
The parties examined opportunities to increase freight flows between Uzbekistan and Latvia, develop transport routes and use the port infrastructure of Riga and Ventspils to facilitate access for Uzbek cargo to European markets.
They also discussed expanding cargo storage and transit services.
Following the meetings, the parties agreed on a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of Latvian business representatives, scheduled for 5–10 October this year.
During the upcoming visit, the parties intend to discuss further cooperation in transport and logistics, energy and pharmaceuticals, explore opportunities for joint projects and identify measures to advance their implementation.
