Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to expand cooperation in digital transformation, innovation and the adoption of advanced technologies, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies said.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov and ADB Country Director for Uzbekistan Kanokpan Lao-Araya.
The parties discussed accelerating the country’s digital transformation, developing advanced technologies and innovation, and further expanding cooperation with the ADB in these areas.
Particular attention was given to introducing digital technologies across various sectors of the economy, strengthening Uzbekistan’s potential as a regional digital hub and expanding international cooperation.
The ADB representative highlighted reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the country’s leadership’s focus on digital transformation and the intellectual potential of young people as factors creating a foundation for the development of the digital economy.
The importance of Uzbekistan’s experience in digital transformation for Central Asia was also noted. The parties considered initiatives to introduce digital solutions, develop innovation infrastructure and stimulate economic growth based on new technologies.
The talks also addressed human capital development. In particular, the parties considered the possibility of establishing a liaison office in South Korea to expand opportunities for exchanging experience, upgrading the skills of civil servants and studying advanced international practices.
The ADB also presented plans to develop systematic support for civil servants’ professional development, strengthen institutional capacity and improve the effectiveness of implementing digital projects.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint efforts to develop digital technologies and innovation, implement planned initiatives and support Uzbekistan’s transformation into a regional center for innovation and advanced technologies.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed during the meeting. It is aimed at accelerating digital transformation in Uzbekistan, expanding the adoption of digital technologies and innovation across various sectors of the economy, and developing the country’s capacity in advanced technologies.
