Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have signed an updated US$5 billion partnership program, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Laziz Kudratov said following talks in Doha.
On 28–29 September, Kudratov held negotiations with AIIB leadership as well as representatives of the Qatari government, financial institutions and business community on the sidelines of the 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors.
One of the key outcomes of the meetings with AIIB leadership was the signing of the updated partnership program between Uzbekistan and the bank, with a total value of US$5 billion.
The sides also signed a grant agreement to prepare a US$300 million project to modernize electricity transmission lines. The talks also covered the possibility of opening an AIIB office in Tashkent and financing prospective infrastructure projects.
Meetings with the Qatari side focused primarily on expanding exports of Uzbek products. In particular, the parties discussed the possibility of opening showrooms for Uzbek manufacturers in Qatar’s retail networks.
Negotiations with leading Qatari companies focused on prospective joint projects in industry, logistics, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and the financial sector.
