Uzbek Referee Ilgiz Tantashev to Officiate Algeria vs. Austria World Cup Match
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Referee from Uzbekistan Ilgiz Tantashev has been included in the list of officials approved to handle matches of the final, third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.
The Uzbek official has been appointed as the head referee for an important Group J match, in which the national teams of Algeria and Austria will face each other. He will be assisted on the lines by his compatriots Andrey Tsapenko and Timur Gaynullin. The match is scheduled for 28 June 2026 and will kick off at 07:00 Tashkent time.
It is worth noting that this is not the first experience for the Uzbek refereeing crew at the current world championship. Earlier, Tantashev, together with Gaynullin and Tsapenko, successfully officiated the second-round match between the national teams of Scotland and Morocco.
That match ended in a minimal 1-0 victory for the Moroccan footballers, with the single and winning goal scored by midfielder Ismael Saibari, who hit the opponent's net as early as the 2nd minute of the game.
