Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The United States secured a comfortable 2–0 victory over Australia in their second Group D match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, played in Seattle.
The opening goal came in the 11th minute as Australia defender Cameron Burgess scored an own goal. The United States doubled their lead in the 43rd minute through Alex Freeman.
The American team played without one of their key players, Christian Pulisic, who missed the match.
With this win, the United States moved to six points and strengthened their position at the top of Group D. Australia sit second with three points, while Turkey and Paraguay remain on zero points ahead of their head-to-head match.
Two consecutive victories ensured the USA became the second team to qualify for the Round of 32, after Mexico.
In the final group-stage match, the United States will face Turkey, while Australia will play Paraguay. Both matches are scheduled for 26 June.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in a new expanded format featuring 48 teams. The final will take place on 19 July.
