Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The US Senate has adopted a resolution marking the 35th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and recognising the development of US relations with the Central Asian countries.

The document received bipartisan support. It was introduced by Senators Steve Daines and Gary Peters, co-chairs of the Senate Central Asia Caucus, together with Senators John Curtis and Dave McCormick.

The resolution notes that Kyrgyzstan declared independence on 31 August 1991, Uzbekistan on 1 September, Tajikistan on 9 September, Turkmenistan on 27 September and Kazakhstan on 16 December of the same year.

The document highlights the development of US relations with the five countries at both the bilateral level and through the multilateral C5+1 format. Areas of cooperation mentioned include trade, security and efforts to counter transnational threats.

Particular attention is given to the role of Central Asia and the Caucasus in international transport and trade links. The resolution describes the region as a connecting space between East and West, including in the context of the development of the Middle Corridor, energy ties and digital infrastructure.

The document also refers to governance reforms, anti-corruption initiatives and economic modernisation being carried out in countries across the region. The Senate links these areas with strengthening the institutional independence and long-term resilience of Central Asian states.

According to the resolution, the United States intends to support the development of economic ties in the region, broader market access, private investment and more resilient supply chains. Other areas mentioned include educational, cultural and professional exchanges.

The US Senate also reaffirmed support for the right of Central Asian countries to determine their foreign policies, security arrangements and economic partnerships without outside pressure. The resolution stresses the importance of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries in the region for regional security.

The adoption of the resolution is another statement by the Senate on the development of US relations with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

In 2025, the Senate also adopted a separate resolution marking the 10th anniversary of enhanced cooperation between the United States and the five Central Asian countries through the C5+1 format.
