Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek grandmasters Javokhir Sindarov and Nodirbek Abdusattorov have taken fourth and fifth place respectively in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) world ranking published on 1 October 2026. Sindarov has a rating of 2782, while Abdusattorov has 2780. Five Uzbek players are included in the world’s top 100, according to FIDE.

The October ranking was largely shaped by the results of the recently concluded 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. Abdusattorov made the most significant move among the players in the top 10. He won individual gold on the first board in Samarkand and gained 18 rating points, allowing him to climb two places and return to the world’s top five after a three-month absence. His rating of 2780 matches his career-best mark.

Sindarov gained four points and retained fourth place. He is two points behind third-placed American Fabiano Caruana, who has a rating of 2784 after losing five points during the period. Sindarov, born in 2005, and Abdusattorov, born in 2004, are the youngest players in the top five.

Norway’s Magnus Carlsen continues to lead the ranking with a rating of 2823. American Hikaru Nakamura is second with 2792.

The rest of the top 10 consists of Wesley So of the United States with 2770, India’s Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa with 2763, Germany’s Vincent Keymer with 2761, China’s Wei Yi with 2758 and France’s Alireza Firouzja with 2757.

Nodirbek Yakubboev also performed strongly at the home Olympiad. He gained 27 rating points in Samarkand and surpassed 2700 for the first time in his career, reaching 2712. He is ranked 26th in the world. Yakubboev’s gain was among the largest increases recorded among players in the top 100 of the open and women’s rankings.

Two other Uzbek players are in the world top 100. Rustam Kasimdzhanov, rated 2665, ranks 48th, while Shamsiddin Vokhidov, rated 2649, is 66th.

Armenian player Mariam Mkrtchyan recorded the largest rating gain during the September period, adding 47 points at the Samarkand Olympiad and surpassing a rating of 2400. Iranian Mobina Alinasab also gained 47 points, with her increase coming from a tournament in France.

England’s Bodhana Sivanandan became the youngest woman in history to receive the Woman Grandmaster title at the age of 11 following her performance at the Olympiad. Turkish player Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus gained 15 points in Samarkand and entered the world top 20 for the first time, reaching 17th place with a rating of 2731.
