Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Officers of the State Security Service’s Tashkent Department, jointly with the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, uncovered an attempt to illegally enroll a citizen directly into the third year of a private higher education institution, the State Security Service’s press service said.
According to the agency, a native of Gallaorol district of Jizzakh region who lives in Tashkent gained the trust of a citizen and demanded US$8,000 from him. In return, he promised to help enroll him in the third year of one of the capital’s private universities.
To carry out the scheme, the suspect intended to use forged documents stating that the citizen had allegedly studied at a Russian university for two years.
The man was detained with material evidence while receiving US$7,500. Operational measures continued afterward.
Another citizen, registered in Samarkand region and temporarily residing in Tashkent, was detained while receiving the same amount.
A pre-investigation inquiry also established the involvement of an inspector-psychologist from the internal affairs department of the Yakkasaray district in the scheme. He was also detained while receiving US$7,500.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against all the individuals mentioned. Investigative actions are currently underway.
