Tashkent to Host Brâncuși Exhibition Marking 150 Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan has announced a photo exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. The opening will take place on 21 April 2026 at the Kamoliddin Behzod Museum of Oriental Miniature Art in Tashkent.

The event is held within the framework of the International Festival of Fine and Applied Arts and is organized in cooperation with the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and the museum. Visitors will be presented with a series of 21 photographs dedicated to the monumental ensemble “The Path of Heroes,” located in the city of Târgu Jiu in Romania.

The ensemble was created by Constantin Brâncuși in 1937–1938 in memory of Romanian soldiers who died in the First World War. Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers, the composition includes such famous elements as the “Table of Silence,” the “Avenue of Chairs,” the “Gate of the Kiss,” and the “Endless Column.” The complex was inaugurated on 27 October 1938 and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2024.

Each element of the ensemble carries symbolic meaning. The “Table of Silence” represents the moment of anticipation before battle, the “Avenue of Chairs” reflects contemplation, the “Gate of the Kiss” symbolizes transition and unity, while the “Endless Column” embodies sacrifice and remembrance of the fallen.

Constantin Brâncuși is regarded as one of the founders of modernism and a key figure in 20th-century sculpture. His works combine elements of folk art with avant-garde artistic approaches. Among his most famous works are “Bird in Space,” “Endless Column,” and “Gate of the Kiss.”

The exhibition will run until 28 April 2026. Admission is free of charge. Organizers note that cultural cooperation between Romania and Uzbekistan continues to develop actively, including joint projects in the field of art.
