Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —A total of 1,466,093 vehicles traveled on the roads of Tashkent on 14 September. On the same day, the new academic year fully began for students of all years at higher education institutions. The Tashkent City Traffic Management Centre reported this.
During the morning rush hour, from 08:00 to 09:00, 254,453 vehicles were on the capital’s roads, while from 17:00 to 18:00, the figure reached 316,154.
Public transport operations
On 14 September, 1,680 buses operating on 170 routes completed 22,011 trips. A total of 1,500,667 passengers used the buses.
The Tashkent Metro transported 1,165,550 passengers during the day. The highest passenger traffic was recorded at Chinor, Sergeli, Choshtepa, Almazar, Chilanzar, Buyuk Ipak Yuli, Dustlik and Beruni stations.
Road congestion
According to monitoring data from the Situation Centre, between 08:00 and 09:00, congestion reached seven points at four intersections. These were the P. Makhmud, TKAD–3rd Beshkurgan Passage, Muqimi–Qatartal and Nukus–A. Qahhor intersections.
At another six intersections, congestion exceeded seven points. They included Fergana Yuli, Akhangaran, Mehrjon–Sarykul, Gavhar–Sh. Rustaveli, Sagban–Farabi and TKAD–University.
To stabilize traffic flows, traffic light operating modes were adjusted, while the duration of green signals was increased on certain routes. Traffic police officers were deployed to regulate traffic at some intersections.
Roadworks
On 14 September, municipal organizations carried out works that partially affected traffic on 18 streets in the capital. The list included Labzak, S. Mashhadiy, Al-Khwarizmi, Shahriobod, 1st Gulnora Passage, Shurtepa, Birlashgan, Moykurgan, V. Vohidov, Qorasuv, A. Temur, Uzumbog, Qorasaroy, Muqimi, M. Yusuf, M. Ulugbek, 1st Qatartal Passage and Akkurgan.
Drivers were advised to plan their routes in advance, taking traffic conditions and roadworks into account, and to choose alternative routes where necessary.
Violations and road accidents
To ensure priority for public transport, pedestrian safety and compliance with traffic rules, traffic police officers recorded nine cases of vehicles driving across pedestrian crossings, eight parking violations and 16 stopping violations on 14 September.
A further 17 cases of driving vehicles while intoxicated and 18 cases of pedestrians crossing the road at unauthorized locations were recorded.
Three road accidents occurred in the capital during the day, resulting in one person sustaining injuries. No cases of particularly severe injuries or fatalities were recorded.
As part of efforts to monitor compliance with traffic rules, drivers were reminded of the need to give way to pedestrians at designated crossings, not to stop on pedestrian crossings or immediately before them, not to occupy bus stop areas and not to drive in the dedicated A lane. Drivers were also urged not to obstruct buses when they enter or leave bus stops.
Road infrastructure upgrades
As part of the capital’s road infrastructure upgrades, about 6,000 metres of road markings and seven pedestrian crossings were renewed.
