Tashkent Plans US$1 Billion Toll Ring Road

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A 100-km, two-level toll ring road is planned around Tashkent. The project is preliminarily estimated to cost US$1 billion, according to a decision by the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies.

The project is planned jointly with Chinese company China Railway Construction. Gazeta.uz clarified that the parties have signed memorandums of understanding rather than final agreements.

Another memorandum was signed with Chinese company SINO-Hunan. The US$1 billion project includes the construction of seven tunnels and five overpasses, the development of 57 km of bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors on 16 streets, and the construction and reconstruction of 279 km of roads.

China Construction may invest US$500 million in the construction of three overpasses and four camping areas, as well as the major repair of 27 km of roads.

A US$100 million project is being discussed with Shanghai Construction. It includes the construction of a camping centre and repairs to 7.7 km of roads.

In addition, preliminary agreements have been reached with Xinjiang Hui’er Agricultural on landscaping along roads using landscape design projects.

The projects are planned as part of Tashkent's cooperation with international financial institutions and major road construction companies.
