Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent Metro set a new historical record for the number of passengers carried in a single day on 28 September.
A total of 1,200,124 people used the metro during the day, the metro’s press service said.
The new figure exceeded the previous record of 1.18 million passengers, recorded on 21 September according to data from the Traffic Management Center, by about 20,000 passengers.
To mark the new record, metro employees organized an event to find the passenger who became the 1,200,000th metro user of the day.
According to published video footage, the passenger was a woman who entered the metro at Druzhba Narodov station.
She was presented with a commemorative gift and a transport card providing free travel for one year.
The metro said the new record reflects growing demand for underground transport services among residents and visitors to the capital.
The organization said it would continue working to improve the convenience, safety and efficiency of passenger services.
However, buses still hold the absolute daily record among Tashkent’s public transport.
On 15 September, buses carried 1,520,113 passengers. This figure was 7.8% higher than the previous record, set in February 2025.
