Sindarov Returns to Uzbekistan After Candidates Win

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 winner Javokhir Sindarov has returned to Uzbekistan, where he was given a ceremonial reception.

At Tashkent International Airport, the chess player was welcomed by representatives of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, as well as his family, close associates, and coaches.

Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation Abdulla Aripov congratulated Sindarov, noting the significance of his achievement. The victory is regarded as an important milestone not only for the grandmaster himself but also for the national chess school.

A formal ceremony was held upon his arrival.

During the event, Aripov read out a presidential decree awarding Sindarov the Order of “Mehnat Shuhrati” for outstanding sporting achievements.

By winning the Candidates Tournament, Sindarov secured the right to compete in a World Chess Championship match. His opponent will be the reigning world champion 2025, Dommaraju Gukesh of India.
