Senate of Oliy Majlis Discusses Measures to Further Develop Tourism Industry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A meeting of the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, chaired by Head of the Upper House of Parliament Tanzila Narbaeva, addressed the further development of the tourism industry and increasing its contribution to the national economy.
During the meeting, a report was presented by Chairman of the Tourism Committee Umidjon Akkulov detailing the results of ongoing reforms and performance indicators achieved in the tourism sector.
It was noted that in the first half of this year, the total volume of services in the country grew by nearly 17 percent, driven by a substantial increase in tourism services. Speakers emphasized that through consistent reforms, tourism is solidifying its role as a primary driver of economic growth, job creation, and regional development.
Particular focus was placed on executing projects aimed at qualitatively modernizing the tourism sector. Key priorities include upgrading tourism infrastructure, introducing modern management practices, enhancing the competitiveness of the national tourism product, and increasing the influx of high-spending foreign tourists.
Meeting participants were also briefed on measures to promote emerging tourism segments, including medical, gastronomic, business (MICE), ecological, winter, and extreme tourism.
Following the discussion, senators stressed the importance of further refining state policy in the tourism sphere, expanding the regional tourism potential, and upgrading service quality to meet international standards.
