Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Russia’s Interior Ministry has proposed exempting certain categories of foreign workers from the mandatory examination in the Russian language, Russian history and the fundamentals of Russian law, RBC reports.

The initiative applies to foreign nationals who have obtained work permits to work for employers with resident status in territories of advanced socio-economic development.

Such territories operate in parts of Russia, including the Far East and the Arctic zone. The proposed amendments could affect foreign nationals employed by residents of these territories.

However, the proposal remains at the draft legislation stage. The existing requirement to pass the examination under the general procedure will remain in force until an official decision is adopted.

Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency said it would continue monitoring developments and provide additional information once a relevant decision has been made.
