Reports claim UAE plans to leave OPEC and OPEC+

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The United Arab Emirates, according to state media reports cited in the original publication, has announced a decision to withdraw from OPEC and OPEC+, stating its intention to focus on national economic and energy interests. The move is described as part of a long-term strategic transformation of the country’s energy profile.

According to the published statement, the decision is said to take effect on Friday and is presented as part of a broader revision of energy policy. It emphasizes that over the years of membership the country has made a significant contribution to the organization, but that national economic objectives and domestic strategy are now the priority.

The announcement was reportedly disseminated through state media, highlighting a shift toward a new model of energy resource management.

UAE Energy Minister Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei is reported to have said that the decision was made following an assessment of current and future energy policy, including oil production levels. He noted that this is a political decision taken after a comprehensive review of national interests.

The reports also refer to broader instability in global energy markets, including risks to supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for oil and liquefied natural gas shipments through which a significant share of global energy flows passes.

Analysts at Rystad Energy are cited as saying that a potential UAE exit would be a significant factor for the structure of the oil alliance, given the country’s role as a major producer.

However, I cannot confirm this claim from reliable and independently verified international sources. As of the time of publication, key details regarding any change in the UAE’s membership status in OPEC or OPEC+ remain unverified.
