Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Assets of commercial banks in Uzbekistan without state participation increased by 29% year on year to 386 trillion soums as of 1 August 2026. Assets of banks with a state stake grew by 14% over the same period to 630.6 trillion soums, according to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
The share of state-owned banks in the banking system’s total assets declined from 64.9% to 62% over the year.
Total banking sector assets reached 1,016.6 trillion soums.
The difference was more pronounced in lending. Private banks increased their loan portfolios by 21.2% to 222.7 trillion soums, while banks with a state stake grew lending by 7.5% to 421.9 trillion soums. The share of state-owned banks in total loans declined from 68.1% to 65.5%.
Both groups recorded almost identical growth in deposits. Deposits at private banks increased by 34.1% to 234.4 trillion soums, while deposits at banks with a state stake grew by 33.8% to 248.2 trillion soums. The share of state-owned banks in the system’s deposit base stood at 51.4%, compared with 51.5% a year earlier.
The loan-to-deposit ratio at banks with a state stake fell from 211.5% to 170% over the year, while the ratio at other banks declined from 105.1% to 95%. As a result, private banks collectively extended fewer loans than the deposits they attracted.
Liabilities of state-owned banks increased by 14.4% to 542.9 trillion soums, while those of private banks grew by 28.9% to 323.1 trillion soums.
Banks with a state stake accounted for 58.3% of the sector’s total capital, or 87.7 trillion soums, while other banks accounted for 41.7%, or 62.8 trillion soums. The share of non-performing loans in the portfolios of state-owned banks stood at 4%, compared with 3.2% for private banks.
The group of banks with a state stake comprises nine banks: UzNatsBank, Agrobank, Uzpromstroybank, Asakabank, Halk Bank, Business Development Bank, Aloqabank, Microcreditbank and Turonbank.
UzNatsBank remained the largest among them, with assets of 145.8 trillion soums. The other 25 banks were led by Kapitalbank with 62.1 trillion soums, Ipoteka Bank with 56 trillion soums and Hamkorbank with 42.5 trillion soums.
Among major private banks, assets of Ipak Yuli Bank increased by 36.8% over the year, Hamkorbank’s by 33.1%, Kapitalbank’s by 20.3% and Ipoteka Bank’s by 10.1%.
