Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Oman has signed an agreement with the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) on the terms of the Bank’s stay in the country.

The document was signed in Astana on 6 October during the state visit of Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to Kazakhstan.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Sultan of Oman and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The agreement was signed by Oman’s Finance Minister Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi and EDB Chairman of the Management Board Nikolay Podguzov.

The agreement marks a new stage in the development of the EDB. Following Oman’s accession, it will become the Bank’s eighth shareholder and the first participating state from the Gulf region.

“The agreement is a step toward closer ties between Central Asia and the Gulf region. We see significant potential here and will develop this cooperation, including as part of the Bank’s new strategy,” Podguzov said.

The EDB said the agreement reflects Oman’s and the Bank’s interest in a long-term partnership, sustainable investment and further development of regional ties.

The Eurasian Development Bank is a multilateral development bank engaged in investment activities across the Eurasian region. Over 20 years of operations, the Bank has contributed to the development of economic ties among its member states.

As of the end of June 2026, the EDB’s accumulated portfolio comprised 348 projects with total investments of US$22.1 billion.

Most of the portfolio consists of projects with an integration effect in transport infrastructure, digital systems, green energy, agriculture, industry and mechanical engineering.

Under the EDB Strategy for 2022–2026, the Bank is implementing three megaprojects: the “Central Asia Water and Energy Complex,” the “Eurasian Transport Framework” and the “Eurasian Commodity Distribution Network.”
