Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new Karatau gas condensate field has been discovered following geological exploration in the central part of the Ustyurt region, Uzbekneftegaz JSC said.
The Karatau area is administratively located in the Muynak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. As part of exploration activities, well No. 1 was drilled to a depth of 4,860 metres.
On 3 October, testing of the well produced a commercial flow of natural gas and condensate from Lower Jurassic deposits at a depth of 3,273–3,213 metres. The test results confirmed the discovery of a new gas condensate field.
Further work at the Karatau area will continue until the end of this year. According to the plan, drilling of exploration well No. 2 will be completed, while drilling of exploration and appraisal wells No. 3 and No. 4 will begin.
According to Uzbekneftegaz, the results of geological exploration at the Karatau area create opportunities to identify new promising areas for studying deep hydrocarbon deposits in the Ustyurt region.
