Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan supports the creation of integrated logistics centres, a substantial reduction in transit costs, harmonised freight transportation rules and the establishment of a unified transport information system across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined this position on 9 October at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Awaza, Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
He also said Uzbekistan supported Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity of the Commonwealth.
Transport connectivity was among the priorities Mirziyoyev proposed for CIS countries. Other areas included the full operation of the free trade area, food security, linking special economic zones into a unified network and energy connectivity.
Mirziyoyev stressed that economic integration and industrial cooperation remain among the main foundations of resilience and development.
He proposed gradually moving beyond the simple exchange of goods towards jointly creating value chains, enabling countries to produce goods together, invest and enter external markets.
The president noted that the world was undergoing profound changes, with tensions rising and established economic ties being reconfigured.
Under these circumstances, he said, it was important to strengthen trust, coordinate positions more frequently and ensure that agreements delivered tangible results.
Mirziyoyev also praised Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the CIS.
Uzbekistan will assume the chairmanship next year, and the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is planned to take place in Bukhara.
