Karimov Memorial Complex to Become an Open Public Park

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The territory surrounding the Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex named after Uzbekistan's first president, Islam Karimov, in Tashkent will be transformed into an open public park, the Tashkent khokimiyat's press service said.

The project предусматривает the comprehensive redevelopment of the 37-hectare park area adjacent to the memorial complex. Plans include removing the metal fences that currently restrict access, creating convenient entrance points and developing an integrated network of pedestrian paths.

Particular attention will be paid to creating a barrier-free environment. The project includes infrastructure designed to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, elderly visitors, families with children and users of baby strollers.

The khokimiyat said the existing green areas will be preserved, while shaded walking routes and quiet recreation areas will be created. The park will also be equipped with modern lighting, navigation systems and security features.

The Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex named after Islam Karimov was established in 2017 on the site of the former Oqsaroy residence. It includes a museum, a research and educational centre, a library and a conference hall.

According to the khokimiyat, the project is being implemented as part of a programme to improve the environmental situation in the capital, expand green areas and develop public park spaces.

Earlier, at the end of July, Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration, announced plans to fully open the park on Afrosiyob Street to residents, as well as expand Babur Ecopark and Mirzo Ulugbek Park. According to the khokimiyat, these initiatives are part of a programme to increase the number of public green spaces in Tashkent.
