Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Jose Maria Pasos Mendez, the head coach of Uzbekistan’s national futsal team, known as “Pulpis,” has announced that he is stepping down due to serious health problems.
In a letter addressed to Bekzod Mamatkulov, president of the Uzbekistan Futsal Association, the Spanish coach thanked him for the trust placed in him and expressed confidence in the team’s future success.
Mendez said unexpected health problems had forced him to leave Uzbekistan much earlier than stipulated in his contract. On his doctors’ advice, he needs to take a break from professional sport and undergo an extensive course of treatment.
“In this regard, I ask that you accept this letter as my farewell,” the letter said.
Despite his relatively short time with the national team, Mendez said he greatly valued the opportunity to work with the Uzbekistan Futsal Association. He added that he would continue to follow the national team’s performances and support it.
Mendez expressed confidence that Uzbekistan would qualify for the World Cup, saying the players would bring fans many more joyful and unforgettable moments.
He also said he was ready to assist the incoming coaching staff and share advice if needed.
Concluding his letter, Mendez thanked Mamatkulov for his understanding and acceptance of his resignation, wishing the association’s president and Uzbek futsal further victories and success.
