Jasurbek Choriev Announces Expansion of TRACECA Corridor Participants

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A number of new states are showing high interest in integrating into the Europe–Caucasus–Asia (TRACECA) international transport corridor.

The corresponding statement was made by the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, Jasurbek Choriev, during his speech at the session "Seamless Eurasia: A Logistics Hub at the Crossroads of Continents," organized as part of the Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) in Almaty. According to him, the expansion of the participants' geography will be a direct response to the growing demands of the international business community.

Currently, the intergovernmental structure includes 14 states; however, in the medium term, their number may increase to 15 or 16 countries. The head of the permanent secretariat emphasized that TRACECA serves as an effective link between the private sector and the state apparatus. The platform is capable of accumulating current problems and requests from logistics companies, transport organizations, and freight forwarders, promptly translating them into the level of consolidated political decision-making.

This multilateral format allows for the resolution of complex cross-border disputes, to which carriers often cannot obtain a timely response at the national level.

Special attention during the discussion was paid to the geo-economic position of the Central Asian states, which experience an objective need to diversify logistics routes to ensure stable access to global markets.

TRACECA notes a significant positive dynamic in all countries of the region, which is reflected in the steady growth of gross domestic product, population increases, and the inflow of foreign direct investment. These factors contribute to the creation of value added and the expansion of production volumes of goods requiring unhindered export in all key directions — north, south, west, and east.

Concluding his speech, Jasurbek Choriev called on national governments, regional economic associations, as well as international financial institutions and development banks to consolidate efforts to form new Eurasian corridors. Such synergistic interaction will help reduce logistics costs and unlock additional economic opportunities. At the same time, the Secretary General specifically noted that when building the new architecture of transport connectivity, international institutions must focus on the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises involved in the transportation sector, and only then engage large transnational corporations in the dialogue.
