Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov discussed opportunities to further develop economic and financial cooperation between the two countries in New Delhi. India’s Finance Ministry said this in a post on X.
The meeting took place in New Delhi on Sunday. The sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and discussed further strengthening bilateral economic and financial ties.
The talks came amid expanding economic engagement between India and Central Asian countries. Closer cooperation in trade, investment and finance is among the areas being pursued to develop the region’s economic ties.
The ministers focused on areas where India and Uzbekistan could expand institutional and economic cooperation.
The meeting also took place as India seeks to strengthen its ties with Central Asia through greater economic cooperation and improved transport connectivity.
Uzbekistan, the most populous country in Central Asia and one of the region’s key economies, plays an important role in India’s economic engagement with Central Asia.
India’s Finance Ministry did not disclose details of the specific sectors or initiatives discussed during the meeting.
