Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Director-General Qu Dongyu visited Tashkent State Agrarian University during his visit to Uzbekistan.
Together with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov, he reviewed the university’s educational and research potential, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.
During the visit, Qu Dongyu and Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov toured the university’s modern facilities and reviewed the conditions created for students. In particular, they visited a laboratory designed for the storage and processing of fruit and vegetable products.
The FAO Director-General also met with university students. During the meeting, he heard their views and initiatives related to agricultural development, food security and the agricultural sector.
As part of the visit, the officials jointly planted a sapling in the university courtyard. Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov and Qu Dongyu took part in the initiative, which was presented as a symbol of the development of science, education and innovation, as well as sustainable agriculture.
In addition, Qu Dongyu and the accompanying delegation visited the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.
The guests reviewed the scientific research and new developments being carried out there.
The FAO chief’s visit to Tashkent State Agrarian University and the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics focused on Uzbekistan’s capabilities in agricultural education and science and on further strengthening the country’s cooperation with FAO.
