Central Bank, Mathematics Institute Launch Research Program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan and the V.I. Romanovsky Institute of Mathematics have signed a memorandum of understanding and approved a cooperation programme for 2026–2028 to strengthen scientific and academic collaboration in economic modelling and macroeconomic analysis.

The agreement is aimed at expanding the use of advanced mathematical methods in macroeconomic analysis, forecasting and monetary policy development. Under the partnership, the two sides will jointly improve mathematical models and methodologies for assessing inflation, financial stability, the banking sector and other key economic indicators.

One of the programme's main initiatives is the establishment of an economic and mathematical applied research laboratory at the Central Bank. Scientists and specialists from the Institute of Mathematics will participate in analytical research and forecasting activities.

The programme also provides for seminars, training sessions and short-term courses for Central Bank staff involved in modelling and analysis. The courses will cover differential equations, stochastic analysis, dynamical systems, computational mathematics, mathematical modelling of economic processes, artificial intelligence, data analysis and machine learning.

Support for young researchers is another key element of the programme. Doctoral students and early-career researchers will be able to undertake scientific and practical internships at the Central Bank, while their dissertation topics will be aligned with current priorities in economic modelling, forecasting and analytics. The programme also предусматривает consideration of future employment opportunities for promising specialists at the regulator.

Starting in 2027, the two sides also plan to organise an annual Summer School on Economic and Mathematical Modelling, hold an annual Mathematics Olympiad for economists, prepare joint scientific publications and expand cooperation on international grant-funded and research projects.

The Central Bank said the programme would strengthen links between science and practice, enhance the regulator's analytical capacity and expand the use of advanced mathematical modelling and data analysis in economic decision-making.
