Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 1 to 7 May, the Boysun district of the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan will host the annual international folklore festival “Boysun Bahori,” which will once again bring together participants and guests from around the world.

According to organizers, more than 100 folklore ensembles from over 40 countries are expected to take part in the event. The festival traditionally combines cultural programs, sports competitions, and exhibitions of folk art.

The program includes competitions in traditional wrestling, equestrian sports, kupkari, and other national games. A separate part of the festival will feature exhibitions by artisans showcasing examples of everyday and decorative-applied arts.

Preparations for the festival at a high organizational level are being carried out by the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, the Surkhandarya regional administration, and other relevant institutions.

At the conclusion of the event, the best folklore and ethnographic groups, as well as winners of sports and traditional competitions, will be awarded.

Boysun’s cultural environment is internationally recognized: in 2001, it was included by UNESCO in the list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and in 2008 it was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
