Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A balloon striking an outdoor switchgear installation at the Aksa Toshkent thermal power plant caused electricity supply disruptions in Tashkent and Tashkent Region on the evening of 19 October. The incident triggered a protection system, resulting in a power outage, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy reported.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras. The ministry urged citizens not to release balloons near power plants, substations and other electrical installations, warning that such incidents can disrupt electricity supplies.

Earlier on the evening of 19 October, the Tashkent City Electric Networks branch reported a loss of voltage on the 110 kV Sokin-2 and Botanika-1 power transmission lines. According to preliminary information, the disruptions affected parts of Kibray, Tashkent and Yunusabad districts.

Power engineers began switching consumers to backup power sources. By 19:54, electricity supply to consumers connected to the Yunusabad, Astronomiya and Limonchi substations had been fully restored.

At 19:57, specialists reported that electricity supply through the L-Botanika-1 line had been secured from another source.
