An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Gansu province in northwestern China.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The death toll from the earthquake in the Chinese province of Gansu has reached 111 people. An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred in Jishishan County, Gansu Province in northwestern China on the night of Monday to Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

According to the latest data from local earthquake response headquarters, people died in both Gansu and the neighboring province of Qinghai.

The earthquake destroyed houses, roads and other infrastructure. Some villages also have problems with electricity and water supply.

Hundreds of rescuers and the necessary equipment for search and rescue operations were sent to the disaster zone.

Train traffic in the earthquake area has been suspended, and railway tracks are being checked to ensure safety.
