Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Alisher Akhundzhanov, former Chargé d’Affaires of Uzbekistan in Japan, has received Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.

The award ceremony was held on 11 September at the residence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan.

The order is awarded only to individuals who have rendered outstanding services. Akhundzhanov was recognised for his longstanding contribution to strengthening relations and developing friendly ties between Japan and Uzbekistan.

Akhundzhanov previously served as head of the Department for Cooperation with Asia-Pacific Countries at Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan.

He made a significant contribution to the opening of Uzbekistan’s embassy in Japan and, as the diplomatic mission’s first Chargé d’Affaires, helped develop multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

While serving as a department head at Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry, Akhundzhanov also made a major contribution to improving the cemetery of Japanese internees in Tashkent.

The Japanese Embassy described his contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries as extremely significant.
