UZCARD and Mastercard Expand Digital Payments in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s national payment processor UZCARD and global payment company Mastercard have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding payment infrastructure and digital financial services in the country.
The document was presented in Samarkand during the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank.
The parties said they intend to explore joint projects to expand acceptance of cashless payments, develop cross-border settlements, and introduce new fintech solutions and value-added digital services.
Special attention will be given to cybersecurity issues amid the growing volume of digital financial transactions.
Mastercard representatives said Uzbekistan is demonstrating steady growth in its digital economy, where payment infrastructure plays a key role. The company said it plans to combine global technological expertise with local know-how to expand access to secure and convenient digital payments.
UZCARD emphasized that cooperation with Mastercard will be an important step in developing the national payment system, expanding cashless transactions, and strengthening the country’s digital ecosystem. The importance of enhancing cybersecurity in the process of digital transformation was also highlighted.
Shareholders of UZCARD noted that the partnership aligns with the strategy of building a sustainable financial infrastructure compatible with international standards and capable of supporting long-term economic development in Uzbekistan.
