Uzbekistan Senate Approves New Military Pension Law

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis approved the Law "On State Pension Provision for Military Personnel (Employees) and Their Families" at a regular plenary session. The law comprehensively regulates pension provision for military personnel and law enforcement officers under Uzbekistan's national legislation. The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

During the discussion, senators noted that the law continues reforms aimed at strengthening social support for military personnel and law enforcement officers, protecting their rights and legitimate interests, and improving social guarantees.

Senators said relations in this area had previously been regulated mainly by legal acts adopted during the former Soviet Union, as well as by individual international agreements. The new law establishes the legal framework for state pension provision in accordance with Uzbekistan's Constitution and national legislation.

For the first time, a single law defines the categories of people eligible for state pensions, the conditions for granting pensions based on length of service, disability and loss of a breadwinner, as well as the procedures for granting, recalculating and paying pensions.

The law also provides additional social support measures for military personnel with long service records. In particular, for those who have served for more than 30 years on a calendar basis, the maximum pension accrual rate will increase from 75% to 100%.

The new social guarantees will apply not only to military personnel retiring after the law enters into force, but also to current pension recipients, as well as employees and their family members, if their length of service exceeds 30 years.

The law also gives particular attention to improving pension provision for military families. It strengthens guarantees for pensions in the event of the loss of a breadwinner, including cases in which a military servicemember dies while performing official duties or dies as a result of an injury or illness sustained during service.

According to the senators, adoption of the law will further strengthen social protection for military personnel and law enforcement officers, provide appropriate recognition of their service and more reliably protect the rights and legitimate interests of their family members.

The law was approved by the Senate following the discussion.
