Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Officers from the Customs Committee’s anti-smuggling department, together with the State Security Service, have seized about 95 kg of hashish in Kibray district of Tashkent region, the press secretary of the Customs Committee, Khusen Tangriev, told Gazeta.
The drugs were hidden among trees in a field, packed into four household sacks.
A total of 109 packages containing hashish were found in the sacks.
Law enforcement officers monitored the area for more than a week, waiting for people who were expected to collect the hidden shipment. As a result, two men were detained.
As part of the subsequent investigation, authorities also detained a man who, according to investigators, had instructed others to hide the drugs in the field and then arrange for their removal.
He had previously faced criminal charges in a case opened by the Customs Committee over petrol smuggling.
A criminal case has been opened over the discovery of the large batch of drugs.
According to experts, the seized quantity of hashish is equivalent to approximately 700,000 doses. Its value on the black market, if the entire batch had been sold to end consumers, could have exceeded US$10 million.
