Uzbekistan Restores Power Supply After Regional Grid Accident

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Electricity supplies have been fully restored in most regions of Uzbekistan following disruptions caused by an accident in the power system of a neighbouring country. Power supply in Surkhandarya Region is expected to be restored shortly, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.

The accident occurred at 14:38 on 14 August and affected the operation of the Central Asian Unified Power System. As a result, electricity supply disruptions occurred in Surkhandarya Region and other parts of Uzbekistan.

According to the Ministry of Energy, work to address the consequences of the accident has been completed. Electricity supplies have now been fully restored in all other regions of the country.

It was previously reported that an accident in Kazakhstan’s power system led to the disconnection of lines L-5400, L-5300 and L-5320. Emergency protection systems were subsequently activated in the networks of Alatau Zharyk Company.

As a result, some consumers in Almaty and Almaty Region were left without electricity. Local media reported that the disconnected load amounted to 300 MW.

Specialists from National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan carried out work to address the consequences of the accident and restore normal operation of the power system.
