Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan produced approximately 1.40 million tonnes of cotton fibre in 2025, ranking fifth among the six major producers included in a comparative analysis published by the country's Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry released the figures, drawing on international data for the 2025/26 agricultural year and Uzbekistan's national production results for 2025.

To ensure comparability across countries, production volumes were converted to a common measurement unit: cotton fibre. According to the published data, China ranked first with 7.79 million tonnes, followed by India with 5.18 million tonnes, Brazil with 4.08 million tonnes and the United States with 3.03 million tonnes.

Uzbekistan ranked fifth with approximately 1.40 million tonnes, ahead of Pakistan, where production was estimated at 1.15 million tonnes.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, raw cotton was harvested from 875,600 hectares in Uzbekistan in 2025. The total harvest amounted to 3.986 million tonnes. With a fibre yield of 35%, this volume corresponds to approximately 1.40 million tonnes of cotton fibre.

The ministry noted that cotton production is influenced by crop variety yields, the adoption of modern agricultural technologies, the organisation of farming operations and farmers' work.

The sector's priorities include not only increasing total harvest volumes but also raising yields per hectare, improving fibre quality and making processing more efficient.

Another priority is developing the value chain from cotton cultivation to the production of finished goods.
